Khem was the god who presided over the gardens. Khem was also the god of generation. As the god of generation, Khem was responsible for the procreation and continuation of species. In rapresentations of Khem symbolic trees are found behind the deity. The same image of "tree" used in representations of Khem is seen in the hieroglyphic group which contains a tree and a sign of the land meaning Egypt. Thus, this grouping bears an evident relation to the deity Khem. The name Khem is similar to the word Chenoa, by which Egypt was known in Coptic. The hieroglyphics on the Rosetta stone which imply Egypt are read as the land of trees."
"La rappresentazione del Dio dei giardini, Khem, offre ulteriori evidenze dell'importanza della natura nella vita degli Egizi. Khem era la divinità che presiedeva ai giardini ed era, inoltre, il Dio della generazione, inteso come il responsabile della procreazione e della continuità delle specie. A rappresentare la divinità, dietro la medesima, si trovano degli alberi simbolici. Quella stessa tipologia di albero compare nel gruppo geroglifico composto da un albero e dal segno della terra utilizzati per rappresentare l'Egitto. Pertanto la connessione con Khem risulta evidente. Il termine Khem richiama poi alla parola "Chemi", utilizzata dai Copti per designare l'Egitto. I geroglifici contenuti sulla Stele di Rosetta, identificativi del Paese, vengono interpretati/tradotti come 'la terra degli alberi' "
